I'm sure you've had the experience of trying a food item and not being being overly impressed.
My first time trying chayote was in the UK and my first impression was that they were bland and flavourless and so buy them again.
When I arrived in Costa Rica I kept seeing Chayotes everywhere and not just the pale green ones I had seen in the England but dark green ones and white ones too!
Here in Costa Rica they are abundant and extremely inexpensive so this prompted me to give them another try.
I was expecting the same bland taste but was pleasantly suprised by the delicious mild sweet taste. Chayotes are delicious and their firm texture means that they have a satisfying crunch!
They remind me a little of apples but obviously not as sweet or acidic.
The moral is to never write anything off and to give foods a second chance as you might be pleasantly suprised!
